The Highest CRS Scores Ever Recorded

The highest CRS cutoff ever recorded was 1,000 points — issued in multiple PNP-only draws held during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. A score of 1,000 is only achievable by candidates with a Provincial Nomination (which adds 600 points) — IRCC used these draws to exclusively invite nominated candidates while the general pool paused.

For general all-program draws, the highest cutoff was 524 points, recorded in 2023. Post-pandemic draws saw CRS climb steeply as candidates accumulated in the pool during the pause and competed intensely when draws resumed.

Why Did CRS Spike So High?

  • COVID-19 pandemic — IRCC paused most draws in 2020, allowing the pool to fill with high-scoring candidates
  • When draws resumed in 2022, there was a massive backlog of candidates with very high CRS scores
  • PNP draws in 2020–2021 used 1,000-point cutoffs to exclusively serve provincial nominees
  • Today, category-based draws have lowered average cutoffs by splitting the pool into smaller groups
