Converting to a 4.0 Scale
Because McMaster’s scale runs from 0 to 12 rather than 0 to 4, converting to a standard 4.0 GPA is a simple proportional calculation: divide your McMaster average by 12, then multiply by 4.0.
For example, a McMaster average of 9.0 (B+) converts to (9 ÷ 12) × 4.0 = 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Calculating Your Cumulative Average

Keep in mind that McMaster’s own “Grade Point Average” terminology may refer to either your sessional (term) average or your cumulative average depending on context — the calculation method is the same, just applied to a different set of courses.
